CIS Secure receives industry-first TSG approval for Cisco 8865 Video VoIP Phone

First video phone ever approved with TSG security features

CIS Secure receives industry-first TSG approval for Cisco 8865 Video VoIP Phone CIS Secure ComputingRESTON, Virginia – CIS Secure is pleased to announce an industry-first TSG type acceptance of a modified Cisco 8865 HD Video enabled VoIP phone (models DTD-8865-01/02). Approved by the National Telecommunications Security Working Group (NTSWG), the CIS modified Cisco 8865 phone is the world’s first video enabled VoIP phone with TSG security.

Defined by the Committee on National Security Systems (CNSS), the TSG type-acceptance program requires all telephones used in sensitive discussion areas to be physically incapable of producing any microphonic audio or intelligible video on any wires leaving the instrument while it is in an on-hook state. Any unmodified VoIP telephone can present eavesdropping vulnerabilities inherent in their Ethernet capabilities.

“Cyber security efforts are increasingly focused on insider threats,” said John Turner, Chief Technology Officer for CIS. “These phones reduce outside and inside threats and are required by policy for Government department, agencies and contractors.”

Not restricted to government only use, TSG type-acceptance products are available to commercial clients where protecting sensitive information, trade secrets, and proprietary data is paramount.

“CIS has provided TSG phones to private sector customers in the financial industry, for example,” Turner added.

The DTD-8865 approved versions of the Cisco 8865 also recognize the migration to converged infrastructures where voice and video meet in what industry deems Unified Communications. The CIS-approved products support 1GB data rates over standard copper Ethernet also recognizing the requirements of higher-speed network access at the desktop.

“CIS has developed patent pending technology that allows our TSG modified devices to pass the stringent TSG Class A requirements using standard copper Ethernet interfaces at the high-speed data rates users now expect,” Turner said. “We are porting this technology to other devices as we continue to grow our modified VoIP phone and other secure communications platforms.”

CIS is the worldwide market leader for TSG approved VoIP instruments and devices including approved USB solutions for soft phone applications like Jabber and Skype.
