Counter-UAS Is Moving From Experimentation to Operational Urgency

On March 5, members of the CIS Secure team joined government leaders and industry innovators in Alexandria, Virginia for the Joint Interagency Task Force 401 Counter-Small UAS Industry Engagement.

The discussion reflected a clear shift in the counter-UAS landscape. The focus is no longer simply identifying promising technologies. The priority now is rapidly delivering operational capability to the field.

Established to accelerate counter-drone solutions across the U.S. Department of War, Joint Interagency Task Force 401 is helping align government priorities with private sector innovation so that emerging technologies can transition more quickly into real mission use.

Several themes stood out from the conversation.

  Drone threats are evolving quickly across global operational environments. Acquisition models, testing cycles, and deployment timelines must keep pace with the threat landscape.

  Leaders emphasized the need for solutions that are deployable, resilient, and capable of performing in contested environments.
• Industry collaboration is essential to scaling capability.
  No single organization can solve the counter-UAS challenge alone. The path forward depends on strong collaboration between government operators, technologists, and mission-focused industry partners.
